From there the staff of Atlantis will walk you to the harbor to board the submarine Maui Submarine Ride Tour Brief: Atlantis dives down to depths of 125 feet as it descend down to a ship wreck and colorful coral formations. As you cruise under the sea you will see the Carthaginian ship wreck that creates an artificial reef teaming with marine life. The submarine affords a lighting system that wraps completely around the outside of the vessel and lights the reef area up like a ballpark. There is a lot to see and the journey is narrated. The viewing portals are very large. Everyone is provided with a window seat and marine life identification cards. This is a very relaxing way to enjoy the wonders of the underwater world of Maui with out getting wet. This adventure is for any one at any age. Maui Value Pass Brief: This event must be scheduled first as Atlantis Submarines provides the pass to the other three events. This outstanding family value combines four different events into one low price. The Maui Value Pass can be used over the length of your vacation, which means you can enjoy this whenever you want. Maui Ocean Center: The Maui Ocean Center is open daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm. You should plan on spending at least a couple of hours in the largest aquarium in America. The shark exhibit is incredible. The Jelly Fish tank is outstanding. The living reef is teeming with more marine life than any other aquarium in Hawaii. Many of the species found here are only found in Hawaiian waters. The whale exhibit is an education to say the least and the largest of it's kind. Lectures are scheduled frequently through out the day to provide awareness of our marine eco-environment. The Maui Ocean Center provides a wonderful day for the family. Admission to the Maui Ocean Center is included as part of the Maui Value Pass.

Bailey House Museum: Built in 1832 on lands given to the missionaries by Governor Hoapili and King Kamehameha, the Bailey House Museum was home to Edward and Caroline Bailey for over 45 years. Edward Bailey was not only a missionary; he was also an artist, teacher, builder, musician, writer, botanist and entrepreneur. Many of his writings and paintings are on display in the home's museum today. The home became the location of the first Female Seminary on the island in 1837. The purpose of this school was to teach the young women of the area arithmetic, reading, Hawaiian history, natural history, and the culinary arts such as cooking, sewing and caring for a house. This home was made into a museum in the mid-1900s and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Be sure and take the tour through the home and check out what life was like for these New England missionaries who arrived on this tropical land. Many of them continued with their old ways and lived a life very similar to how they lived in Massachusetts. Take the time to tour the grounds of the old colonial style home and check out the canoe on display in the back yard. This fishing canoe, Honaunau, was built on the Big Island in the beginning of the 19th Century from a single Koa log. Above the canoe is a surfboard belonging to Hawaii's most famous athlete, Duke Kahanamoku. Maui Tropical Plantation: The Maui Tropical Plantation is located in Central Maui and represents the varieties of agriculture that flourishes on Maui. The tram ride is a fun family event as it winds through the plantation with a hands on look at what the agriculture industry is all about. The tram ride lasts about one hour. The Maui Tropical Plantation also has a General Store for made on Maui products. The tram ride is included as part of the Maui Value Pass.

The Reef Dancer is closed on Christmas and New Years Day Reef Dancer is a semi-submersible submarine that has an underwater cabin surrounded by viewing windows. Once the Reef Dancer arrives at the viewing area there are 3 scuba divers that descend out from the submarine. One feeds the marine life and draws so many fish around him that you can't see him. Another diver has an underwater video recorder and films the hidden secrets beneath the rocks. There is a viewing screen inside the cabin and you can see what he is filming. The third diver does what has become known as the "creature feature" part of the adventure as he finds live specimens and neat stuff on the bottom and brings it up to the viewing windows for all to see. He then returns it back to where he found it (unharmed of course), and the entire journey is narrated so everyone knows what they are looking at. This activity is a great event for families with younger children. The length of the activity is perfect for the attention span of the younger children and freedom of movement on the boat is a welcome relief for parents. Because this is a semi-submersible you can also go up to the top side for a breath of fresh air and enjoy the sights of Lahaina on the way back to the harbor. The 90 Minute Tour This adventure includes all the features of the shorter tour along with the following additions. Reef Dancers enjoys a second location with this adventure where you can enjoy the green sea turtles. Beverage and snacks are included with the tour. This is a plus... One of the features that Reef Dancer affords is the top deck. You can enjoy the vistas of Lahaina and views of Lanai from above the water while your family enjoys the world underwater from below deck. Lazy, fun and a wonderful family outing, Reef Dancer provides great escape in the afternoon in Lahaina. Submarine Tips Please remember that when doing a submarine activity for the best photos you should disable the flash on your camera. If you don't your pictures will have the flash in them instead of the photo. In our opinion families with smaller children would be better off scheduling the Reef Dancer than Atlantis. The length of time combined with the freedom of movement on the vessel and the price structure give this a better value. Atlantis on the other hand is highly recommended for families with older children and couples of any age that wishes to explore something totally different than the ordinary. Neither one of these adventures provide a real hands on water experience, which is good for those who desire to enjoy the underwater life without having to snorkel. Both are great charters with a different venue. The only remaining question is, which one is for you?
