Great trip for Molokini snorkeling! The mooring pin is on the left inside of the crater away from the crowds. This affords a very protected area for snorkelers and an abundance of marine life. The Pride of Maui is a very large power catamaran with a huge main cabin with two restrooms and a hot water shower. All the snorkel gear is provided and optical masks are available at no charge. The boat has a water slide and a glass bottom, which makes it perfect for families. The Pride of Maui also offers the easiest access into the water out of all the charter boats that snorkel at Molokini. In the front of the boat there is a 4' foot wide stair that leads to a platform about 4'x6' that sits a few inches under the water. This makes entry into the water very easy for everyone.
The Pride of Maui also offers certified diving and Snuba as an option to further your adventure. Both the Snuba and the scuba are additional charges above the cost of the snorkel price.
After Molokini the Pride goes to a second snorkel site known as Turtle Town. Here you get to swim with the Green Sea Turtles. You will be surprised at how big they grow to.
Maui Snuba has become a very popular while Snorkeling in Maui. There are very few Maui charter boats than offer Snuba. The Pride of Maui offers Snuba at an extra charge on board. The rate is $49.00 per person plus tax. Because of its popularity the Maui Fun Company has a selection on the reservation page that allows you to reserve your tanks for Snuba.
We do not collect the fee for this. We simply reserve your tanks and you pay direct on board the Pride of Maui. You are not obligated to pay for the Snuba if you decide Snuba is not something you wish to do.
Snuba is scuba diving without the tanks. The tanks rest on a raft on the surface. A 15 foot line connects you to the tank. Snuba 101 is provided aboard the charter to all those who wish to enjoy it. The tank last about 35 minutes. This is fun and safe for every member of your family.

Molokini Tips
When selecting a Maui charter boat for a Molokini tour, the mooring pin for the boat will make a big difference in how much marine life you see while you snorkel Molokini Crater and how crowded the waters will be around your charter boat, as it's one of the more popular Maui snorkel tours. With that in mind, we have chosen the Maui charter boat companies that offer the best mooring locations for Molokini, allowing you to snorkel Maui tropical waters to experience all Molokini has to offer. All the charters do their absolute best, and all are good excursions for a Molokini snorkeling tour. A Molokini snorkel cruise is a must do Maui activity for anyone that wants the best Maui snorkeling adventure.
The Maui Fun Company reviews on Molokini are pretty simple. Every charter boat does their best to ensure you have a memorable Molokini Snorkeling experience. However, the way the US Coast Guard has set up mooring pin locations at Molokini favors some charters better than others.
This is how Molokini works:
You can liken Molokini to an apartment complex. When you move into an apartment, you get the key from the manager and he assigns you a parking stall. You have to park your car in the same stall every time you come home, or someone is not going to be happy with you. At Molokini, the manager is the US Coast Guard. Each charter boat company must drop a mooring pin in a location provided by the US Coast Guard. They must go to the same mooring pin every day. For some reason, the Coast Guard has assigned 95% of the charter boats to the right hand side of Molokini.
Basically the amount of passengers a charter boat is certified for fits the size and space aboard the vessel. Even with the larger boats when they are sold out there is ample room for freedom of movement. However, that can't be said for some of the smaller vessels, especially the smaller catamarans. The smaller catamarans usually have a net or trampoline on the front of their boat that covers almost all of the deck area in front of the main cabin. This cuts down the amount of usable space on the boat. You may think its really cool, but trying having lunch sitting on the net. If one person moves, your lunch will bounce off the net. Because of this most of the guests aboard the boat usually hang out in the main cabin making the conditions crowded. At the same time their mooring pin is on the right, smack in the middle of 12 other charter boats. Even if the charter only carried 59 guests you really won't be snorkeling with just the people aboard your boat. There will be no less than 600 other people Snorkeling in Molokini with you. I would prefer to snorkel with just the people on my boat rather than with the people on 12 other charter boats. How about you?
The mooring pin location for the charter should be the primary selection for a Molokini Snorkeling Trip instead of the amount of guests the charter is certified to host.
If you are an experienced diver, we highly recommend that you select a dive boat over one of these Molokini Crater charters, as you will have a more fulfilling experience and be allowed greater access to Molokini Maui than those who simply snorkel Molokini can achieve.
The snuba option offered on some of the Maui Hawaii snorkel trips is a great way to see if you wish to further explore the world of diving. Anyone over the age of 8 will be offered this exciting alternative to snorkeling in Maui, with the charter company conducting a Snuba 101 class before the tour enters the water. Snuba is done by filling a small raft with oxygen and attaching a 20’ hose to the raft. The person attached to the apparatus can now swim underwater like a fish without having to surface for air or bear the burden of a heavy compressed air tank while they take in the wonders of Molokini Crater and the underwater Molokini Maui experience. The oxygen generally lasts for 20 or 30 minutes, and is equally popular among both children and adults. Expect to pay roughly $50 extra per person for this option--it’s somewhat pricey, but amazingly fun!
