After several hours of snorkeling at Molokini, the Pride of Maui cruises over to Turtle Town. Here you will be able to snorkel Maui with the Green Sea Turtles for a little over an hour.
The Pride of Maui is the best Maui snorkeling activity for families.
The Pride of Maui is a large 65' double deck power catamaran with a huge covered main cabin, 2 restrooms, water slide, glass bottom and a hot water shower. All the snorkel gear for snorkeling at Molokini is included. Optical masks are available at no charge. The Pride of Maui provides a snorkel 101 for any guest who is not familiar with snorkeling. There are 3 entry points into the water; with 2 being in the back of the boat and 1 in the front. The front access point descends down stairs to a small platform that sits even with the water. The back entry points are on each side of the boat with stairs leading to a small platform. You can simply push off to get into the water. Coming out of the water there is a ladder (much like a pool) that you use to climb up onto the boat.
The Pride of Maui is the best snorkeling for kids. The water slide is major fun! Maui Snuba adventures are available for children 8 years old and up. Both kids and Adults will agree that a Maui Snuba activity is the best activity for children and families alike. Snuba is an extra charge which is paid directly to the boat. We can reserve the tanks, but you pay direct. The costs are $49.50 a person.
The glass bottom is a great way to observe what is going on underwater without getting wet.
Scuba diving at Molokini Crater is available to anyone who has a dive card. We can reserve the scuba dive, but you pay direct on the boat.
A 2-tank dive runs about $66.00 per person.
A 1-tank dive runs about $39.00 per person.
Tips and information on Snuba diving in Maui are at the bottom of the page.
Pride of Maui Tips:
There are a couple of things you should know when choosing the Pride of Maui as a Maui snorkeling adventure.
Seating is important. The top deck is where most of the seating is located. The seats you want to choose are anywhere along the side or back of the boat. These are the only seats with a back rest. This seating area wraps completely around the top deck like a horseshoe. These seats are much more comfortable than the center seating which we refer to as locker room bench style seating.
Have a plan for seating by boarding early and selecting your seating as soon as you board the boat. We prefer the back corners on the back of the boat. This area is especially good for larger groups.
A little known fact about Molokini Crater is the Coast Guard has implemented a rule that involves the amount of guests the boat can carry. Basically it works like this. Maui charter boats who offers Snuba or scuba, must reduce the overall guest count of the boat capacity by one guest for every Snuba or Scuba tank brought aboard the boat.

Molokini Snorkeling Guide:
When considering a Maui charter boat for a Molokini tour, the mooring pin for the boat will make a big difference in how much marine life you see while you snorkel Molokini Crater and how crowded the waters will be around your Maui charter boat. Molokini Maui is one of the more popular Maui snorkel tours. With that in mind, we have chosen the Maui charter boat companies that offer the best mooring locations for Molokini. This allows you to snorkel Maui tropical waters to experience all Molokini has to offer. A Molokini snorkel cruise is a must do Maui activity for anyone that wants the best Maui snorkeling adventure.
Maui Fun Company reviews on Molokini are pretty simple. Every charter boat does their best to ensure you have a memorable Molokini Snorkeling experience. However, the way the US Coast Guard assigned mooring pin locations at Molokini favors some charters better than others.
How Molokini works:
You can liken Molokini to an apartment complex. When you move into an apartment, you get the key from the manager and he assigns you a parking stall. You have to park your car in the same stall every time you come home, or someone is not going to be happy with you.
At Molokini, the manager is the US Coast Guard. Each charter boat company must drop a mooring pin in the exact location provided by the US Coast Guard. They must go to the same mooring pin every day. For some reason, the Coast Guard has assigned 95% of the charter boats to the right hand side of Molokini.
Are you wondering if the boats are crowded? Basically the number of passengers a charter boat can carry is determined by the space aboard the vessel. Even with the larger boats when they are sold out, there is ample room for freedom of movement.
However, that can't be said for some of the smaller vessels, especially the smaller catamarans. The smaller catamarans usually have a net or trampoline on the front of their boat that covers almost all of the deck area in front of the main cabin. This reduces the amount of usable space on the boat. You may think it's really cool, but trying having lunch sitting on the net. If one person moves, your lunch will bounce off the net. Because of this, most of the guests aboard the boat usually hang out in the main cabin producing crowded conditions. Kind of like a sardine can. At the same time their mooring pin is on the right, smack in the middle of 12 other charter boats. Even if the charter only carried 59 guests you really won't be snorkeling with just the people aboard your boat. There will be no less than 600 other people Snorkeling in Molokini with you.
Wouldn't you prefer to snorkel with just the people on your boat rather than with the people on 12 other charter boats?
The mooring pin location for the charter should be the primary selection for a Molokini Snorkeling Trip instead of the guest count the charter is certified to host.
Snuba Diving on Maui:
The Snuba option offered on some of the Maui Hawaii snorkel trips is a great way to see if you wish to further explore the world of diving. Anyone over the age of 8 will be offered this exciting alternative to snorkeling in Maui, with the charter company conducting a Snuba 101 class before the tour enters the water. Snuba is done by filling a small raft with oxygen and attaching a 20' hose to the raft. The person attached to the apparatus can now swim underwater like a fish without having to surface for air or bear the burden of a heavy compressed air tank while they take in the wonders of Molokini Crater and the underwater Molokini Maui experience. The oxygen generally lasts for 20 or 30 minutes, and is equally popular among both children and adults. Expect to pay roughly $50 extra per person for this option--it's somewhat pricey, but amazingly fun!
Please note: Molokini is at the discretion of the Captain the morning of the activity. During inclement weather conditions (high winds or rough ocean currents) the Captain may opt for another location that is more suitable.
