Lanai Tips All the Lanai trips depart from Lahaina because it is closer to the Island and doesn't take very long to journey across the channel. For those who are staying in West Maui it is a very short drive to the harbor in Lahaina. For those staying in South Maui it is worth the drive. Most people who look at these dolphin adventures ask if the charter boats will allow you to swim with the dolphins. Please remember that most of the charters on Maui are very eco friendly and will not allow any person to jump out of the boat into a pod of dolphins. Besides the dolphins of Lanai and Maui are on the endangered species list and the charters would face a lot of unwanted trouble for allowing anyone in the water with them. However there are no laws that states the dolphins can't swim up to you and give you the thrill of your life.
